The Story Behind the Prints: How Charlie Inspired Our Hand-Printed Dog Clothing
When people see a finished Fur-You design a print carefully pulled through a screen, a hoodie folded just so - they often see the art. What they might not see is the story behind it.
Every Fur-You design - from our sustainable dog tees to our hand-printed hoodies -begins with a story. Every line and curve starts as a moment shared with a dog, a thought about resilience, or a quiet reminder that beauty grows through patience.

Bend Don't Break: A Design About Resilience for Rescue Dogs

The "Bend Don't Break" tee began with a tree I sketched one afternoon - branches arched but still reaching toward the light. At the time, I didn't realise it would become the truest reflection of Charlie's journey, and in many ways, my own.
When Charlie first came home, he was cautious and unsure. You could see in his eyes that he'd been through more than any dog should. He wasn't broken - just bent by his circumstances, testing whether this new life was one he could trust.
Over time, he showed me what resilience really looks like: quiet persistence, small steps, and a heart that chooses to love again.
That's what this design means to me to bend is to grow, not to give up. It's a message that feels especially true in the rescue world, where so many dogs (and people) rebuild trust at their own pace.
Shop the Bend Don't Break Tee in dusty pink, grey marle, or sand - each one hand-printed in our Melbourne studio.

The Mandala Print: Patience, Repetition & Screen Printing Artistry

The Mandala began as a doodle a meditation on repetition and focus. For someone who's always been more instinctive than structured, it was an exercise in patience. Screen printing has taught me that rhythm: the steady pull of ink, the pause before lifting the frame, the acceptance that perfection lives inside the imperfect.
Patience, to me, is another form of resilience a maturity that comes from giving a process time to unfold. I used to abandon artworks too soon, not realising that clarity often arrives just after you've almost given up. Charlie, in his own way, taught me the same thing.
Like many adopted dogs, he followed the 3-3-3 rule - three days to decompress, three weeks to settle, three months to feel safe. I've watched him evolve from a nervous soul to a confident, cheeky companion who knows he's finally home.
đĄÂ Did you know? The 3-3-3 rule helps rescue dogs adjust to their new homes. Charlie's journey perfectly mirrors this timeline, showing that patience and time create the strongest bonds.
The Mandala also carries a gentle nod to its origins. Mandalas and the colourful chalk Rangoli designs of India, often drawn during Diwali, have long represented balance and joy. Living in Melbourne, a city rich in culture and colour, I've always admired the beauty of these traditions - not to imitate them, but to honour the patience and vibrancy they embody.

Charlie and the Bird: Finding Joy in Simple Moments

Some designs arrive quietly. "Charlie and the Bird" came from one of those small, perfect mornings - the kind where the world feels still. Charlie was off-lead in the park, tail high, chasing the light and pausing only to watch a bird dart between trees. It was pure joy: a dog completely in his element, free and content.
I stood there watching him, realising that the peace I felt in that moment was the same calm I try to infuse into every Fur-You piece. Dogs remind us to find joy in simplicity, to live slowly and with intention. It's the same philosophy behind how we create - local, mindful and built to last.
Bring this peaceful moment home with the Charlie and the Bird Tee -available in dusty pink with green print.
